Ever wondered what finishes furniture makers add to wood to get that amazing finish? Read on…..
We finish our furniture in the following; Wax, Danish oil, Clear lacquer and Paint or a combination of any of them
Let’s take a deeper look at the qualities of each
Wax;
- Traditionally used for pine but becoming more popular with oak, this is a cost-effective way of finishing your piece and gives a variety of colours.
- Mildly water resistant
- Easy and quick to apply simply rub on polish off
- Very forgiving during application
Danish oil;
- It gives an attractive natural low sheen finish when dry.
- It is specially formulated to penetrate deep into all types of timber, nourishing and protecting
- It is food safe when dry
- It has a low odour when drying, and none when dry.
- It does not leave a surface film or varnish, and will not chip, flake, crack or peel.
- It is naturally water resistant, yet is microporous to water vapour allowing the wood to ‘breathe’
Clear Lacquer;
- Brush mark free, spray finish
- Gives a very good water-resistant finish
- Ideal for worksurfaces where there is high usage
- Spill resistant
- Hard wearing
- Allows the natural wood to flourish
Paint;
- Sprayed colour pigmented lacquer gives a better look than brushed paint
- Available in endless colour combinations
- Colour match to any established brand
- Lacquer is tough and long lasting
- Lacquer penetrates deeper, which provides a durable seal that protects the wood from the inside out.
Using the right quality finish is critical to the durability, look and longevity of our products.
