Choosing the right wood is a really common dilemma and one that has many more questions attached to it.

Whether you’re a commissioning a piece of custom-made furniture, or buying a standard piece, understanding how to choose the right wood for your furniture can be a little daunting.

So how do we answer it? Well most of the time it’s what fits with your room and budget.

The furniture you already have in your home can help you decide, but some of the pieces around you can be what we call ‘incidental’ furniture, meaning you were given it, it came with the house, or it’s been with you for years.

You can, of course, find something to best match the majority of your existing wooden furniture, but on the other hand, you may want to branch out into something different for a special feature piece or complete new set for your room.

Furniture designs can be made in most wood types, pine can look great in a contemporary style with sharp square edges and clean lines and the same can be said for oak furniture in a traditional style with its more rounded beaded appearance even though these are more commonly found the other way round, pine furniture in a traditional design and oak in a more modern contemporary style

So, the basics are Oak will generally cost at least 50% more than the equivalent Pine product rising to 100% more

Personally, I prefer the softer Pine look for bedroom furniture and oak with a more cutting edge look more for ground floor rooms giving a great compromise and balance

What finishes can we have?

We finish our furniture in; Wax, Danish oil, Clear lacquer and Paint. Check our blog on finishes.
